Manufacturing Process
You are all aware U.S. Construction... an upholsterer is given a frame with springs attached. He then hand-pads it, affixes the leather upholstery to this frame and after a lengthy process that takes from two to three hours, the finished product emerges.
In contrast, European construction of this type used by Legacy Leather International Inc. starts by cutting and sewing the leather upholstery completely off the frame. This cut-and-sewn material is then pulled over the padded frame, drawn down tightly, adjusted for neatness and then fastened to the underside of the wooden frame.
The arms, made separately, are also covered in the same manner and then securely bolted to the body frame. The result, a superbly tailored piece of furniture but with upholstery reduced to less than forty-five minutes! This major difference is obviously reflected in the price.
But rather than imitate its European counterparts exactly, Legacy Leather International Inc.has opted to make certain changes and improvements for the betterment of the product.
In European construction, the wooden frames are generally made from particle-board...wood chips encased in a binding compound. A frame made from particle board is structurally stable but, because particle board cannot accept screws, the frames are glued and stapled. Legacy Leather International Inc. has opted to use solid Northern hardwoods... ash, maple and oak... then fastening the frame components together with dowels, glue and corner blocks. This frame provides the ultimate consumer with a platform that is strong enough to withstand. the years of intended use and flexible enough to conform an uneven floors. In the unlikely event of frame failure, a particle board frame can be repaired but with great difficulty. A hardwood frame can easily be repaired, usually right in the consumer's home.
Platform springing provides the necessary support and resilience vital for long term sealing comfort. Standard European construction provides either a sinuous spring (NoSag) platform or an elastic rubberized strap ... Pirelli-web ... as a means of support. Legacy Leather International Inc., on the other hand, uses a unitized single coil spring where possible, hand-tied eight ways to provide maximum compression and a full, deep seated "ride"...vertical movement vital for comfort.
Legacy Leather International Inc. uses loose cushion seats and loose pillow backs which combined with generous internal depth and back height, provides truly superb seating comfort. In contrast, our European friends use tight seats and tight or semi attached backs, a practice that reduces cost but also seating comfort. The zippered cushion covers also enable the consumer to rotate seat cushions to minimize normal crushing and to fine tune the back padding to individual taste.
A graphic demonstration of the inter-working of the coil spring and cushion is that of a mattress and box spring working together and the change in comfort that is felt when the mattress is placed upon an incompressible surface such as a wooden floor.
Our seat cushions are constructed from three layers of polyfoam, wrapped in fibre of feather (depending upon style) and then encased in muslin. While more conventional than an attached cushion ... and also more costly ... seating comfort is greatly augmented. Backs are filled and muslin-encased, then inserted through a zippered opening.
In short, while production techniques have been adapted to take full advantage of cost-saving features, styling and comfort have remained paramount. A Leather sofa must not only look good, it must sit well.
Our lifetime warranty covers the frame, the padding, the cushions and even the leather itself against color transfer, against finish cracking and peeling.
We at Legacy Leather International Inc. are committed to providing you with not only a well-styled, well-made product that you can sell with confidence, but also provide you with total and complete service, the service you need to answer your questions and the questions to your clientele.
